SHELBY, N.C. — A North Carolina man fired gunshots into a home but then died in a crash just seconds later, WBTV reported.

Shelby police said a man started shooting at a home on Seaboard Avenue with three people inside around 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

A person inside the home told WBTV she saw the shooter firing at a window. After seeing her, she said he got into a truck and took off. The shooter was reportedly riding as a passenger.

The truck reportedly rolled down an embankment and threw out the alleged shooter and killed him. His identity has not been released.

The alleged driver of the truck, 42-year-old Richard Ray Martin, was charged with driving while impaired and felony death by vehicle.

Martin was placed in the Cleveland County Detention Center under a $250,000 secured bond and has court planned on Monday.

No injuries were reported from inside the home. Police said they’re still investigating a motive behind the shooting.

A person inside the home said she knew the shooter, but not driver. She said she does not know why the incident happened.
