GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Guilford County Schools system is facing a budget problem for next school year.

School officials say they may have to dip into a savings account to cover some basic expenses.

Superintendent Mo Green had asked county commissioners for an additional $13.6 million, but he only received $1.5 million.

The district’s chief financial officer says classroom sizes will be increased and teacher assistants will have to take seven unpaid days off.

Officials say they’re still waiting on the final budget from the state to see if more changes are needed.
