Woman dies in Eden crash, driver charged with DWI

EDEN, N.C. — A woman died in a single-vehicle crash early Friday morning, Eden Police confirmed in a news release.

Police responded to an accident at the intersection of Stadium Drive and Vaughn Street around 2:15 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found an overturned vehicle that had struck a nearby home.

Tonya Hopkins Tucker, 28, of Cascade, Va., and Jason Ray Bates, 25, of Danville, Va., were both ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Tucker, who owns the vehicle, died at the scene.

Bates, who was driving, was taken by Rockingham County EMS to Moses Cone Hospital for treatment.

Following an investigation, Bates was charged with driving while impaired.

No other information was provided.

The investigation is ongoing.
