Police investigate assault on Harris St. in Burlington

BURLINGTON, N.C. -- A woman was assaulted early Thursday at a home on Harris St., according to police.

Officers responded to 811 Harris St. around 1:03 a.m. in reference to an assault. Upon arrival, officers located a man attempting to leave the home on foot. He was later identified as Edward Earl Shaw Jr., of 428 Gilmer St., Burlington.

A witness told officers Shaw assaulted a female at the home on Harris St.

The woman was located and told police she had been assaulted by Shaw. She was taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Shaw was taken to the Burlington Police Department and charged with first degree burglary, assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and several other charges.

Shaw his currently being held at the Alamance County Jail without bond.
