Family of 4 involved in accident on I-40 near Stratford Road

All lanes of I-40 Westbound have reopened after an accident near the Stratford Road exit (NCDOT)

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A family of four traveling from Cherokee to the beach was involved in an accident on I-40 Westbound near Stratford Road on Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened around 3:15 p.m. near mile marker 189. According to¬†Trooper Reavis, witnesses said an SUV cut off the family’s SUV, causing the vehicle to collide with a guard rail and flip over.

Drivers in other cars helped the family members get out of the van.

The father and mother suffered minor injuries. They were taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center to be treated. The two children inside the SUV were not injured.

Witnesses were unable to describe the SUV that allegedly cut off the family’s vehicle. The driver continued east on I-40 and did not stop, witnesses told Trooper Reavis.

Two of three lanes were blocked while crews were on the scene. The lanes have since reopened.
