THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- Officials said a man was killed after he drove a car into a home in Thomasville on Saturday.

Authorities said the incident happened on Upper Lake Road. The victim was identified as 51-year-old George Berridge of Thomasville.

Troopers said Berridge was not wearing a seat belt and speed appears to be a factor.

Officials said nobody was home when the Mercedes struck the house. The family who lives there is staying with relatives until the house is fixed.

Neighbors on Upper Lake Road in Thomasville said they are in shock after witnessing the incident.

“It was something like you see in the movies it was unreal,” said Brian Pennington.

Neighbors said the victim inside was unconscious when they rushed to help.

The investigation is ongoing. Authorities said they are waiting for the results of a toxicology test to determine if alcohol was a factor.
