GREENVILLE, N.C. — Police said a gunman went on a shooting spree in the area of a Walmart store in Greenville on Friday, leaving four people hurt.

WTVD reported it began around 11:45 a.m. along Greenville Boulevard in the area between the store and a Hilton hotel across the street.

Witnesses said the gunman used a shotgun to shoot a Geico insurance adjuster in the parking lot of the Kellum Law Firm.

He then allegedly ran across Greenville Boulevard where he shot three more people in the Walmart parking lot.

All of the victims were in surgery Friday afternoon. There conditions have not been released.

“We heard rapid gunfire from at least two different guns outside,” said witness Ashley Mason, according to WTVD.

Police said the gunman tried to flee on foot but was cornered nearby on Hooker Road where he traded shots with officers, eventually being hit.

The suspect was also in surgery late Friday. He was not identified.

Investigators said the alleged gunman was carrying a “significant” amount of ammunition with him. They were trying to determine a motive for the attack.

A spokesperson for Walmart said all of its employees are okay.
