CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — A missing teenage boy was found dead Thursday afternoon – a day after he went under while swimming with friends near Hope Mills.
Friends told WTVD that Cameron Draughon went under the water around 4:30 p.m. while swimming in the rain-swollen Rockfish Creek in Cumberland County.
Rescue crews and dive teams were initially concentrated their search right around a sandy beach and swimming area on the creek. Others reportedly searched along the creek’s banks.
A sheriff’s department spokesperson said three teens were horsing around when Draughon dove underwater and didn’t come up.
Draughon was a Gray’s Creek High School student.
