RALEIGH, N.C. — N.C. State researchers are asking people throughout North Carolina to mail them dead cicadas — all in the name of science.

Researchers will use the dead bugs to study their population and mating habits.

Officials said this is the scientists’ only chance until the 2030, because the cicadas will spend the next 17 years underground.

Researchers suggest freezing any dead cicadas before you send them — to make sure other critters don’t go along for the ride.
