Police search for pedestrian hit by car in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem police said they are looking for a pedestrian who was hit by a car but went missing from the scene shortly later.

The driver told police he was headed south on US 52 near Akron Drive when a man stepped into the road around 1 a.m. Sunday.

The driver said he was unable to stop, running into the pedestrian. He said he did not have a phone so he went to Akron Drive for help.

The driver told police that when he returned to the scene the pedestrian was gone and a sneaker was found on the ground.

Officers said the front of his car was damaged and a small amount of blood was found at the scene.

Authorities said they searched the area and contacted hospitals, but no one was admitted for injuries possibly sustained by being hit by a car.

Police did not say what type of car was involved or how fast it was possibly going.
