Immigration reformers show support at Mosaic Festival

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Dozens of people attending the Mosaic Festival at Festival Park on Saturday had their pictures taken and sent to North Carolina Senators Kay Hagan and Richard Burr.

Each of them expressed support for comprehensive immigration reform.

The US Senate will vote on an 849-page proposal from the Senate Judiciary Committee some time before July 4th.

The bill includes a stricter border security, a pathway to citizenship for those already here, and amped up oversight to catch those here illegally and the companies that hire them.

“We’re sending post cards to our senators,” said Greensboro immigration attorney Kelly White. “We need to have an entire package that address all the issues, because it is a network; it is a system, and we need to pass it that way.”

Senators Hagan and Burr had not thrown their support one way or another as of last week.
