U.S. 311 bypass officially opens in Randolph County

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — The new Interstate 74/U.S. 311 connector in Randolph County opened Friday.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at 10 a.m. and the road opened to traffic at noon.

The I-74/US 311 bypass project from Glenola (Cedar Square Rd.) to US 220 has been delayed several times due to weather and rock blasting delays. The goal of the connector is to connect Randolph, Guilford and Forsyth counties.

The bypass was originally scheduled to open October 2012, then December 2012, and then February 2013.

The estimated cost is $100 million.
