THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Davidson County health officials say a fox that attacked a person Friday in their yard in the Hasty community has tested positive for rabies.

The incident marks the county’s fourth confirmed case of rabies so far in 2013.

Officials say the person who was attacked shot and killed the fox.

Officials would not confirm if the fox that tested positive for rabies was the same fox that bit Brooks Milliken numerous times Friday night while he was protecting his wife from the animal in their backyard.

The wife, Robbin Milliken, was watering flowers at their home when the fox came at her from underneath their back porch.  Brooks Milliken knocked the fox to the ground when he came outside, then went back inside to grab a pistol.  He said the animal bit him several times in the legs before he was able to shoot it twice, killing it.
