Burlington man accused of shooting relative

BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Police say a Burlington man was arrested Monday afternoon after he shot a family member at his apartment.

The shooting was reported shortly before 4 p.m. at 407 East Sixth St.

When officers arrived, police say they learned Marcus Antonio Thompson had run away from the apartment after being shot.

The victim was found on Avon Avenue with a gunshot wound to his arm.  He was treated by EMS before being taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

Police say Marcus Thompson was shot at the apartment during an argument with 54-year-old William Harvey Thompson.

William Thompson was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  He was taken to the Alamance County Jail where he is being held under a $250,000 secured bond.
