HIGH POINT, N.C. — Walmart will hire up to 95 new associates at its new Neighborhood Market store opening in High Point.

As we reported earlier this year, the 42,000 sq. ft store will open at the corner of Wendover Ave. and Penny Road behind the Discount Tire. The store is expected to open late summer or early fall, according to the company.

According to store manager Billy Lewis, the store will be hiring full-time and part-time associates.

“We are excited to add the area’s first Walmart Neighborhood Market and bring good jobs with great career opportunities,” said Lewis.

The majority of new associates will begin work in July to help prepare the store for its grand opening.

Walmart operates 200 Neighborhood Markets around the country, including locations in Charlotte and Cary.

Walmart is also building a new Neighborhood Market location in Greensboro on High Point Road. The store will be located inside the old Borders Bookstore location at 3605 High Point Road.

According to the company’s website, “Neighborhood Markets were designed in 1998 as a smaller-footprint option for communities in need of a pharmacy, affordable groceries and merchandise.”

“They are part of a more flexible approach we are taking to communities that includes both the large and small store format,” said William C. Wertz, Director of Communications East for Walmart.

The market will offer fresh produce, meat and dairy products, bakery and deli items, household supplies, health and beauty aids and a pharmacy.
