GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Officers canvassed Battleground Avenue on Thursday after four businesses were burglarized overnight.

The businesses that were targeted include The Hub Ltd at 2921 Battleground Ave., the New York Deli at 3724-C Battleground Ave., Freedom House Thrift at 3724-F Battleground Ave., and the Red Tee Golf Shop at 2925 Battleground Ave.

In each of the burglaries, police say someone forced their way inside the business in an attempt to steal cash.

Detectives believe the same suspect or suspects are responsible for each break-in.

In addition to the four overnight, police tell FOX8's Mitch Carr there have been more than 20 "smash-and-grab" burglaries in the area over the past month.

No other details about the cases were provided.

On Thursday afternoon, police alerted business owners of the crimes, solicited leads to help solve the burglaries and offered advice on how businesses can avoid becoming victims.  They say owners can empty out their cash registers and leave the drawers open and visible from the outside to discourage burglars.  Owners can also display signs in their windows warning any would-be burglars that there is no money kept inside.
