ASHEBORO, N.C. -- The North Carolina Zoo's polar bear exhibit reopened on Wednesday.

Aquila, one of the zoo's two polar bears, recently returned after spending some time at the Detroit Zoo while the N.C. Zoo began implementing an $8.5 million expansion of its exhibit.

The N.C. Zoo's second polar bear, Wilhelm, has been staying at the Milwaukee Zoo.  He will remain there until the renovations are nearer to completion in 2014.
