Burlington man charged with assault

BURLINGTON, N.C. — Police say a Burlington man was arrested Tuesday night after he attacked another man and an officer.

According to police, officers responded shortly after 6:15 p.m. to a disturbance in the roadway near the intersection of East Davis and Flanner streets.

Police say the victim, 43-year-old Joey Cates, was found in the 500 block of Flanner Street with a laceration to his forehead.  He was taken by ambulance to Alamance Regional Medical Center for treatment of the wound, which was not life-threatening.

The suspect, 42-year-old Franklin Junior Wiley, was found afterward near his home in the 900 block of East Davis Street, police said.

Wiley is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and assault causing physical injury on a law enforcement officer.  He was also served with an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Craven County for failure to appear in court.

The suspect is being held in the Alamance County Detention Center under a $27,000 secured bond.
