LONG VIEW, N.C. — Authorities said a Long View man killed his girlfriend’s 1-year-old son and hurt her 3-year-old daughter while baby-sitting them.
Authorities told WBTV that William Lail, 25, faces two counts of first degree child abuse and violating his probation.
Officials said Lail came out of the house around 1 p.m. Friday, holding the boy and screaming for help. Police have not released details of what caused his death.
Witnesses said the 3-year-old girl appeared to suffer burns. She was taken to the hospital and her condition has not been released.
The Associated Press reported that Lail was seen crying in a patrol car after the children were taken away. He remains in jail, and it was not known if he has an attorney.
