SURRY COUNTY, N.C. — A man listed as “most wanted” in Carroll County was arrested Wednesday night in Surry County.

Brian Keith Barr, age 38, was wanted for violating probation and breaking and entering. He was also wanted for possessing a stolen firearm.

Around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, members of the U.S. Marshals Joint Fugitive Task Force (JFTF) along with the Surry County Sheriff Graham Atkinson and the Surry County Swat Team identified Barr was inside his home at 2065 Fancy Gap Rd. in Mount Airy.

When officials approached the door, Barr slammed the door and refused to come out. Officials immediately surrounded the residence and requested assistance from the Surry County Swat Team because he was considered homicidal and suicidal.

Sheriff Graham Atkinson arrived at the scene and made direct contact with Barr. Sheriff Atkinson was able to persuade Barr to surrender to the Surry County Swat Team. Barr surrendered at his residence and was taken into custody without incident.
