Skeet Club Road widening project upsets neighbors in High Point

HIGH POINT, NC — The City of High Point could begin widening busy Skeet Club Road as early as October 1, and the landowners along the road aren’t happy with the plans.

The plan calls for expanding Skeet Club Road from two lanes to five, including a turning lane and a median. That would require raising the road and installing a guard rail.

Rick Moore lives at the corner of Skeet Club and Johnson Street on the north side of the road. He stands to lose 30 to 40 feet of his property for the project.

“What they had planned to do is just to come out and butcher our property and then leave us to deal with it,” Moore said.

Moore is also unhappy that the land isn’t being taken away from either side of the road equally. All of the land for the expansion is coming from the north side of the road because of a historical designation on the south side of it.

According to High Point zoning administrator David Hyder, this is the best solution the city has to make Skeet Club Road safer with the increasing amount of traffic it handles.
