CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mayor Anthony Foxx announced today that he will not seek re-election, according to WCNC.

The statement did not say what he plans to do after leaving office.

“My grandfather often paraphrased the book of Ecclesiastes when he said, ‘There is a season for everything under the sun,’” Foxx said in his statement this morning. “I remember his words as I announce today my decision not to run for re-election.”

Foxx has been mayor of Charlotte since 2009 and is currently serving his second term in office.
