MOUNT GILEAD, N.C. — The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man’s body was found in a ditch.

Lt. Kelly Howell says the man’s body was discovered by a relative around 7:45 a.m. Thursday in a ditch off Lilly’s Bridge Road.

Howell says deputies have identified the man, but his name had not been made public as of Thursday afternoon.  Howell did say the man was in his late-60s.

Deputies did not see any obvious signs of trauma, but Howell says they have not yet ruled out a homicide.

Howell said a relative dropped the man off at his home Wednesday evening.

No other information was immediately available.
