Officials: Woman leads police on chase before crashing into power pole

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman was hospitalized after authorities said she crashed into a power pole during a police chase early Tuesday morning in Charlotte.
WSOC reported that the chase started just after 2:15 a.m. at Independence Boulevard near Eastway Drive and ended with a wreck near Dorn Circle and Maplecrest Drive.
Troopers said the woman was driving more than 70 mph and they believe she was drunk. They said the chase only lasted a few minutes.
The crash reportedly knocked out power to a few houses and trapped the woman in the car.
Authorities said firefighters pulled the woman out of the vehicle and paramedics took her to the hospital.
The extent of her injuries was not released. Power has been restored in the area of the crash.
Troopers said they will go to the hospital later Tuesday to interview the woman and charge her. Her name has not been released.
