RALEIGH, N.C. — A second House committee has agreed to give the city of Charlotte more flexibility with current hotel and prepared food taxes to pay for Carolina Panthers stadium improvements, the Charlotte Observer is reporting.

The House Finance Committee voted 21-11 Tuesday to expand how Charlotte can use part of those Mecklenburg County revenues beyond the Charlotte Convention Center to help with renovations to Bank of America Stadium.

The legislation does not provide what Charlotte city leaders want, a penny increase on the prepared food and beverage tax. Now others have scaled back their request to a half-cent increase.

Bill sponsor Rep. Ruth Samuelson of Charlotte says the bill would not give the city all it’s asked for and would require leaders to prioritize spending among many projects. The measure now goes to the full House.
