6-month-old shot 5 times, dies

A 6-month-old who was shot five times in Chicago while her father was changing her diaper has died, WGN is reporting.

According to WGN, Jonylah Watkins died at Comer Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, where she underwent emergency surgery following the shooting on Monday.

Her father, Jonathan Watkins, was also wounded in the shooting is still in critical condition.

Witnesses said the gunman approached Jonathan Watkins around 1 p.m. Monday and opened fire on him while he was standing beside his minivan changing his daughter’s diaper.

Police are still searching the neighborhood for security footage or any additional witnesses.

Jonathan Watkins was shot in the side and buttocks, and suffered a graze wound to his face. Jonylah was shot five times, in the thigh, shoulder, lung, liver and bowels, the family said.
