Report: NC girls excel in education, sports; face health, poverty issues
Girl in North Carolina have gained ground in education and sports participation, and as teenagers are less likely to be sexually active or get pregnant, according to a News and Observer report.
However, substantial gaps persist among racial and socioeconomic groups in terms of health and well-being.
Overall, girls are excelling in school and are less likely to drop out than their male counterparts. They also make up about half of the students in the state’s science, technology, engineering and math-focused schools, according to the report.
