WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – N.C. Department of Transportation crews are working overnight Sunday on US Highway 52 as part of the Salem Creek Connector Project.
The left lane of Highway 52 North will close from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday as crews conduct soil drilling tests for future bridge construction.
A new road from Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to Rams Drive and eight bridges will be constructed over Salem Creek and US 52.
In an effort to reduce the traffic delays and accidents, the entrance and exit ramps for Third, Fourth and Fifth streets will be closed permanently.
A new acceleration lane will be built in both directions on US 52 from Business 40 to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
The closures are part of the US 52 Improvement that also includes streaming and replacing parts of the highway. The project is expected to be complete by early summer.
Authorities said about 80,000 to 90,000 vehicles cross over US 52 daily.
