Former West Montgomery HS football coach charged for sex with a student
MT GILEAD, N.C. — The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has issued an arrest warrant a former West Montgomery High School football coach they believe had a sexual relationship with a student at the school.
Zach Carr faces a charge of taking indecent liberties with a juvenile. According to Lt. Kelley Howell, Carr had sex with a 16-year-old student in a storage closet on campus.
Lt Howell said the 16-year-old’s mother, who works at West Montgomery High School, was aware of the storage closet incident and did not alert anyone, nor did she stop the sexual relationship as it continued with other incidents off campus.
Lindsay Whitley with Montgomery County Schools said Carr resigned from WMHS on January 1, 2013. Whitley said his resignation was not related to this incident.
Whitley said the 16-year-old’s mother is on paid leave pending investigation.
According to Lt. Howell, both the student and her mother were questioned about the sexual relationship Wednesday and both denied any such relationship.
A day later on Thursday, Howell says both admitted to the relationship and the storage closet incident.
Lindsay Whitley said the school district is disturbed about this allegation, as well as another from January where a former principal was accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.
Whitley said the district is working on new ethics training to stop this sort of thing from happening.
