HIGH POINT, N.C. — Authorities said a man was arrested after driving a car through a hospital in High Point after a police chase Sunday morning.

Officials said the incident happened shortly before 4 a.m. at the front entrance of the High Point Regional Emergency Department at 601 N. Elm St.

Officials said the driver was spotted going the wrong way on College Drive approaching Green Street. Police said a chase started when an officer tried stopping him.

Authorities said the chase ended at Kivett Drive and Main Street, but the driver turned toward the hospital and drove into the emergency room entrance.

Officials said no injuries were reported in the wreck. An estimated $75,000 worth of damage was reported in the emergency room.

The driver, Lynn Christopher Baskins, 27, of High Point, was charged with driving while impaired, felony speeding to elude, driving with a revoked license, careless and reckless driving and hit and run.

Authorities said he was placed in the Guilford County Jail under a $20,000 bond and has court planned for March 1.

Hospital officials said the Emergency Department remains open after being evacuated.
