Abortion clinic closes in Greensboro
GREENSBORO, N.C. — One of Greensboro’s last two abortion clinics has closed.
The Greensboro News & Record reported that A Woman’s Choice clinic on Pomona Drive is no longer in business.
The clinic advertised “affordable care in a time of need” and offered abortions starting at $300, according to its website.
“We were just surprised that the clinic was closed, and we were grateful that it was closed,” said Elaine McHale, who celebrated the business’s closing, according to the paper.
The paper reported that protesters showed up on the sidewalk along the strip of businesses and found an empty parking lot a week ago Saturday.
The protesters said a woman stopped by to plan an appointment but found the door locked. She said the office had been stripped of furniture.
No notes have been left on the door. The clinic’s listed telephone number reportedly transfers calls to an unaffiliated abortion clinic in High Point.
The doctor would have had to renew his license to practice in North Carolina. He reportedly remains in good standing with the N.C. Medical Board.
While several opponents of abortion celebrated the closing of the business, abortion rights supporters said they are concerned with how the closure could affect women.
