5 killed in head-on collision in Georgia

LAGRANGE, Ga. — Officials said five people were killed and two others injured after a head-on collision  between two cars in the west Georgia city of LaGrange.

The LaGrange Daily News reported that witnesses said a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass passing other cars at high speed and in a no-passing zone when it slammed into a 1995 Pontiac GrandAm in the opposite direction.

28-year-old Willie Hooks was killed in the Oldsmobile and 23-year-old Melanie Kay Lemmon was killed in the Pontiac. Also killed were three passengers in the Pontiac, whose names were not immediately released.

The two injured passengers were reportedly airlifted to hospitals in Atlanta and Columbus.

The Georgia State Patrol said it is having a blood-alcohol test conducted on Hooks.
