Thief makes less than graceful getaway in Burlington

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A thief busted through the door of Lane Jewelry in Burlington after robbing the store on Wednesday, according to police.

The suspect grabbed several pieces of jewelry from an employee then ran for the door, police said.

Unaware that the employee engaged a locking system on the door to prevent him from leaving, the thief broke through the glass on the door and ran for his vehicle.

“Makes you wonder. That’s a bold move. It’s probably someone who may have been desperate,” said Angela Seabrooks, an employee at the Power Zone Workout Studio next door Lane Jewlery.

“It’s a little disconcerting because of course we are here late at night so now I’m kind of concerned for my ladies.”

Witnesses saw the man get into a blue Honda Pilot with North Carolina license plates.

The suspect is described as a black male, 30-40 years old, 5’8′, 170 lbs., prescription glasses, wearing a black wind breaker with a dark hooded sweatshirt underneath, dark jeans, white shoes, white hat and wearing a blue tooth in his right ear.

No employees were injured, but the front door was broken.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to call the Burlington Police Department at 336-229-3500 or CrimeStoppers at 336-229-7100.
