Missing student found safe late Tuesday

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. -- A student reported missing was found safe Tuesday evening.

Deputies received a call around 4 p.m. that a Southwest Randolph High School student who has intellectual disabilities was missing."

The student has a history of running away from home.

Authorities organized a formal search after teachers and a school resource officer were unable to find him.

The search ended around 7 p.m. when a motorist spotted the student. Deputies found him a mile away from home near Pisgah Covered Bridge Road.
