A prayer for Dean Smith: NC State student’s column goes viral
UNC coaching legend Dean Smith.
RALEIGH, N.C. — A writer for NC State University’s campus newspaper wrote a column honoring UNC coaching legend Dean Smith – and the article has since become an internet sensation.
“A prayer for Dean Smith” was written by NC State junior Rob McLamb and appeared in the Technician Online on Wednesday.
The tribune pays honor to the legendary 81-year-old Tar Heels coach, who has been reportedly been experiencing problems with his memory.
McLamb shares his admiration for the Hall of Fame coach throughout the piece:
“Smith is a beautiful man. He has lived a life for others. He has given so much to the people that he loves that it is beyond reproach,” McLamb writes.
Smith announced his retirement in 1997 after 36 years coaching at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His family disclosed that he had been diagnosed with progressive neurocognitive disorder in 2010.
McLamb’s column has been shared on Facebook more than 3,000 times in just three days and is currently the most-read piece on the Technician Online Website.
UNC faces the Wolfpack at 7 p.m. tonight in Raleigh.
