Don McLean fined, singer was speeding
ROCKLAND, Maine – “American Pie” singer Don McLean has been fined $400 for driving his car too fast in a U.S. school zone.
Multiple media outlets are reporting that a judge lowered the fine from $515 to $400. McLean reportedly paid up immediately.
McLean burst into popularity the early ‘70s “American Pie,” a song about the deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper. All three died in a plane crash on Feb. 3, 1959 — The Day the Music Died.
