A Kings Mountain man died on Monday after an accident at his welding business after a diesel tank he was working on blew up, The Charlotte Observer reports.
Gerald Randall Sheppard, 69, owned his business, Sheppard Welding, for 35 years, his daughter told the Observer. He had three adult children.
“He started his own business, decided that’s what he wanted to do,” his daughter said. “He started off building wood stoves. He designed it and welded it together and everything.”
Sheppard Welding grew into a thriving welding business, and her father worked six days a week on different projects and jobs for clients. “He was a worker,” she said. “He built it from the ground up.”
