Michael Andrew Alexander, 54, of Morganton.

MORGANTON, N.C. — More families who claim their children were sexually molested by a teacher are suing a North Carolina school district.

The Charlotte Observer reported that lawsuits were filed Monday by two families who accuse Burke County Public Schools of failing to protect their children and dozens of others.

Michael Andrew Alexander, 54, of Morganton, is currently serving 50 years in prison in a case involving international child pornography.

He pleaded guilty in July of 2012 to three counts each of a first-degree sex offense with a child and indecent liberties with a child.

An 8-year-old girl’s family filed a similar lawsuit last year in U.S. District Court. The lawsuits claim Alexander excused girls from activities at Hildebran Elementary School.

He then sexually abused them in classrooms and posted the videos.

The lawsuits say 50 girls could have been victims. The pornography was discovered after an international police organization found online photos of young girls wearing Hildbran T-shirts last year.
