27-year-old Joseph Mark Karaszewski

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. – Authorities say a deputy with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office was charged Sunday with improperly obtaining prescription drugs.

The Jackson Daily News reported that Joseph Mark Karaszewski, 27, was charged with five counts of obtaining a controlled substance by prescription misrepresentation or withholding information from a medical practitioner.

Karaszewski allegedly received at least 24 hydrocodone pills from a dentist, 15 acetaminophen tablets with codeine from a doctor and 180 ml of cough syrup with hydrocodone-chlorpheniram from a physician’s assistant.

Officials said he misrepresented facts to more than one doctor to receive the substances. The drugs were allegedly obtained for personal use.

He allegedly visited the medical professionals three times in October and twice in November.
