Police: Bank robber arrested after crashing getaway vehicle
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man has been arrested in connection with a Monday morning bank robbery in Winston-Salem.
Police Lt. Rob Cozart says the robbery occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. at the BB&T at 2710 Peters Creek Parkway.
Cozart said the suspect was in the parking lot of the bank as employees were arriving for work. The suspect “surprised the workers and forced them inside,” he said.
The suspect then ran to a vehicle that was parked on Old Salisbury Road.
Cozart says the suspect tried driving away “at a high rate of speed” when he lost control and went over an embankment.
The suspect, who was not injured, was taken into custody at the scene of the wreck.
His identity has not been released.
