GRAHAM, N.C. — An Alamance County man has been charged with driving while intoxicated after police say he fatally struck a Burlington man on Christmas Eve.

Lt. Brad Shirley with the Graham Police Department says Michael David Holland, 41, died in the accident, which happened shortly before 6 p.m. Monday on N.C. 54/East Hardin Street near the intersection at Whittemore Road.

According to Shirley, Holland was crossing the five-lane section of highway when he was struck by a 1994 Audi sedan driven by Nelson Keith Stanford, 47, of Mebane.

Stanford was arrested and jailed under a $40,000 secured bond.

The suspect is charged with DWI and driving with a revoked license.  Shirley said more charges are pending review by the District Attorney’s office.

His first court appearance is slated for March 8.

Shirley said there a passenger was riding with Stanford, but the passenger was not charged.

No other details were available.
