Hundreds receive Christmas trees in Winston-Salem
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The 25th annual Operation Christmas Tree kicked of Saturday, delivering fresh trees and wreaths to hundreds.
Co-founders Larry Womble and Ted Fishwater said volunteers were able to deliver more than 300 trees to deserving families all over the city.
Womble said Operation Christmas tree allows families who normally would be without a chance at a traditional Christmas.
“Why throw these trees away, why take them to the chipper, why take them to the landfill, we can put these trees in people’s houses,” Womble said.
Families were able to collect the trees as wreaths at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum and at dozens of other sites at community centers and apartment complexes.
