COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.(KDVR) — A Colorado Springs man pistol-whipped, burned and raped his then girlfriend during a perilous car ride in 2010. Where’s the proof? Recorded on his victim’s cell phone, prosecutors say.

During opening statements Wednesday, prosecutor Jennifer Darby said Ryan Michael Cantor deliberately recorded his crimes and took pleasure in asserting his control, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette.

“This is a case about domination, intimidation and humiliation,” Darby said, with photos of the victim’s injuries being displayed behind her.

Cantor’s attorney, Phillip Dubois, called this a he-said-she-said case, arguing that the only evidence the prosecution has to prove his client is behind the camera and the wheel is the victim’s word.

Dubois went on to describe the victim as a methamphetamine addict with arrests for motor vehicle theft and drug possession.

In the cell phone video, the woman is shown being held at gunpoint and forced to perform oral sex on a man during a car ride through Colorado Springs in April 2010. The car in the video is an Infinity that the prosecution said belongs to Cantor.

The video continues to show the man stopping once for food at a drive-through restaurant before proceeding to beat the woman with his gun and burn her with cigarettes. He also pretended to shoot her in the back of the head while singing a rendition of “eeny meeny miny moe” in a deep voice.

The woman, who broke down in tears and left the stand before she was able to describe the actual assault, said she began dating Cantor earlier in 2010. Her husband was in jail at the time.

The trial is expected to last two weeks, according to the Gazette. Cantor, who is being charged with kidnapping, first-degree assault and rape, could face a life sentence if convicted.
