HIGH POINT, N.C. — An assistant professor of elementary education at High Point University has been awarded the LEGO Showcase Grant valued at $20,000.

School officials said Dr. Shirley Disseler was one of 100 grant recipients across the country to receive the honor.

Officials said the grant will allow for materials for the STEM Smart Program to be brought to three partnering elementary schools, Oak View Elementary, Oak Hill Elementary and Kirkman Park Elementary.

It also will allow for the School of Education to host a community-wide showcase of LEGO robotics in the spring that will show how LEGO can be used in critical thinking processes.

“The grant is important to me professionally as I look toward the development of collaborative efforts and partnerships in the High Point area with schools,” Disseler said, according to a prepared statement.
