PILOT, NC — Davidson County Senior Services says it has a waiting list more than 100 people long for its home delivered meal program because of a lack of volunteers.
Volunteer Services Coordinator Angela Miller said that means some people who need meals delivered to them have to go without.
“Basically they just have to sit there. It’s unfortunate,” Miller said.
Guilford County has a similar problem, with 86 people on the waiting list.
In Davidson County, volunteers must be 18 and be able to provide their own transportation. They will be asked to deliver a maximum of 12 meals between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM along a designated route.
Those interested should contact Davidson County Senior Services.
Seniors needing meal delivery must be over 60 and meet other criteria.
