Small Business Saturday brings out customers from around the Triad
GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Several small businesses offered extra savings and deals for shoppers in the Piedmont Triad on Small Business Saturday.
Owner of Mechelle’s in downtown Greensboro, Mechelle Lindenberg, has offered discounts for customers for the past two years.
Lindenberg said it’s a good way to show appreciation to their customers who support them and take advantage of the shopping spree the day after Black Friday.
“It’s been busy steady all day and Black Friday was great too,” Lindenberg said. “For a small business owner, it just makes you realize your dream and I think also for the community in general, it brings everybody together. A lot of my customers are friends and I enjoy them coming in.”
Michelle’s offered a 20 percent discount on all her items and reminded customers of the American Express card deal.
In 2010, American Express began the event promoting locally-owned stores. If shoppers use their American Express card, they can get a $25 credit with a purchase of at least $25 on at a small business.
Owner Brandi temple of Lolly Wolly Doodle is continuing her deals for shoppers through Cyber Monday with 10 percent off select items and offering giveaways to customers.
Lolly Wolly Doodle is an online children’s clothing store that produced custom made outfits and accessories in Lexington.
Only 10 percent of her customers are in North Carolina. Temple said her staff makes about 6,000 to 7,000 orders a week mostly in the Southeast.
With 115 employees, Lolly Wolly Doodle is the largest employer in Lexington. Temple said whether customers shop on Small Business Saturday or any day they are supporting the local economy.
“By supporting and by purchasing things from Lolly Wolly Doodle you are creating jobs,” Temple said. ”That’s what’s been the growth factor and that’s what’s been the driving force behind us the last six months.”
Other small businesses are participating in Cyber Monday not only on their website but their Facebook pages.
