PIEDMONT, N.C.- Planning, baking, and spending has consumed many shoppers who are cooking Thanksgiving dinners.
Inmar, a Winston-Salem based research firm, says this year shoppers are changing their game plans.
Shoppers are spending more money, planning ahead, and using cell phones to keep track of their coupons.
The Inmar study took a look at 500 shoppers and found that a record number are using digital coupons to save.
Almost 80% of shoppers plan to spend the same or more on their holiday meals this year.
70% of shoppers planned their shopping route nearly a month ahead of time.
Margaret Fuller is a savvy shopper who spent four weeks mapping out her meal.
“I sit down and I check the newspapers and see what’s on sale and then I go get what’s on sale that day,” explains Margaret Fuller.
75% of shoppers go through sales ads and clip those coupons.
Some shoppers, like Fuller, go to three or four different stores in order to get the best bargains for that one Thanksgiving meal.
“Gas has gone down a bit so I can maneuver from one store to another to go get a cheaper price,” explains Fuller.
82% of men said they have a say in the deciding what is on the Thanksgiving menu.
More women than men plan and use coupons more frequently.
