GREENSBORO, N.C.–Distracted shoppers are easy targets for criminals.

That's why Greensboro police will increase their patrols around busy shopping centers beginning on Black Friday.

Officers will be on foot, driving their cars and riding their bikes, in anticipation of the holiday rush.

Greensboro police officer S.R. Little says increased patrols are an excellent crime deterrent.

"It's been very effective when you have police cars out front, it deters the shoplifters and it brings the numbers down."

Shoppers like Robin Bates say they feel safer with more officers on patrol.

"To know they are going to be more of a force will change my shopping habits this Christmas."

Police encourage all shoppers to be safe this holiday season.
