42,000 boxes for Operation Christmas Child sent from Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Around 42,000 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child were loaded up Monday night heading out to children around the world.

The program, affiliated with Samaritan’s Purse, fills shoeboxes with small gifts, school supplies and basic necessities to be given to impoverished children throughout the world.

After months of planning and packing shoeboxes from churches and organizations in six Western Piedmont counties, all the boxes were brought to Pinedale Christian Church on Monday night to be loaded into tractor trailers.

“This is what we wait for, to get all these boxes in and to know we are going to share God’s love to these children,” said Cindy Miller with Operation Christmas Child of the Northwest Piedmont. “To give them some hope and to let them know that somebody loves them, somebody cares about them — this is what it’s all about.”

You can still help out by registering on the Samaritan’s Purse website and filling a box online.  This year, you can also track your box until it is delivered to a child.
