Man seriously injured after being trapped underground at Fuquay-Varina plant
FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. – A man working at a Fuquay-Varina waste water treatment plant was injured after getting trapped 15 feet underground Thursday morning, according to WTVD.
Officials told WTVD Terrible Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant operator Dan Hackney was replacing a piece of equipment underground around 9:15 a.m. when his leg got caught in the equipment.
Nearby workers were not injured and were able to get help.
Rescuers freed the 44-year-old around 10:30 a.m. He was transported to WakeMed Trauma Center. His condition is unknown at this time.
According to WTVD, initial reports stated that Hackney’s foot was severed in the accident, but officials said they are still awaiting word from the hospital.
